May 12 & 13 - close to home

Well our tiny house camping is coming to an end. Fun trip. We didn’t kill each other, saw the kids, explored and hiked beautiful places, bought motor home.

Here is my last sunset and even a sunrise pic at a KOA near Terre Haute

We made it the whole way across the US without any traffic holdups because of construction until PA. Sat in traffic over an hour because of a lane closure. Is PA the only state that doesn’t know how to keep traffic moving?

May 11 - headed across Kansas

Headed across Kansas on I-70. Not much to photograph. The sunflowers weren’t blooming yet.

Camped in a beautiful campground, east of Topeka, Lake Shawnee. We camped right next to the lake.

Another sunset on the lake

May 10 - heading east from Colorado

Left Ridgway State Park, CO, early morning. Travelled route 50 east. Was a very scenic drive. Drove over the Monarch Mountain Pass which is the Continental Divide.

Next time we are through here, I’d like to take the cable car ride.

Drove to the border of Colorado, Burlington. There was a very small roadside RV Park. Took a walk downtown Burlington, a high prairie small town.

Had to use air conditioner for the first time, till it cooled down outside.

May 9 - Ridgway State Park

After breakfast, we started out hiking the Twin Fawn trail to the MearsbTrail to the Enchanted Trail. Beautiful and peaceful 7.4 mile hike. Since our campground is on top of a Mesa, we first had to walk down the Telwin Fawn trail to catch the Mears trail. Reuben walked that whole way. Here’s the reservoir that is part of the campground. We walked around most of it.

The water is a deep shade of blue-green. Lenny kept trying to get down to it. The water is very low. They are in a drought situation because they haven’t had the snowfall they usually do.

We could see the mountains which still had snow. Hopefully that will melt and run to the reservoir.

After that long hike, we all needed to take a rest. Reuben was sleeping the minute he made it to the couch!

Fire time. Tomorrow we leave. Not sure when we’ll be able to have a fire again so one last one for now it’s been good to be camped for 3 days.

May 8 - Ridgway State Park

The morning was beautiful with deep blue skies and no clouds. After talking with Andrea, and having a personal tour of the campground on top of the hill, Bill decided to change campgrounds, still in Ridgway SP. now we are on the top of the Mesa and can see 360 views of the mountains and the valley.

Only downfall is that most of the trails go downhill!  We took one this afternoon for about a 2 Miles. It’s about 80 degrees during the day and then cools down to about 55 at night.

After the hike, Bill decided to wash the front of the camper. It was BUG city. After that hard work, he had to relax a little.

The boys and I took a walk to an overlook and met some people who had gone to Penn State. It was fun reliving some of the PSU history with them.

Those Re the San Juan mountains in the background. Still snow up there.

After dinner we walked to the sunset trail to see what kind of a sunset Wes gerbsince the sky was cloudless. Not too vivid but still a sunset.

May 7 - on our way to Colorado

Before pulling out, we took a short hike around Pallisade lake. Beautiful setting. Campground wasn’t crowded.

On the road again, I took the first shift of driving. The RV is very easy to drive.

Although we were on I70, the roadside views were gorgeous.

We ended up at the Ridgeay State Park, near Montrose. We are in the Mesa and are the foothills for the San  Juan Mts. They had several campgrounds. Our first was at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk. Hiked about 2 miles before cooking quesadillas and a salad for dinner. When we were in Idaho, I had found Tillamook ice cream from Oregon. Tonight was our night to celebrate and have some.

Here’s the sunset we saw tonight as we sat around the campfire relaxing.

May 6 - Headed for Palliasade State Park, UT

As we were traveling through Utah, we saw desert on one side of the road and then green-irrigated pastures on the other side.

We lucked out on our campground again. This was a beautiful lakeside campground. And it had a fire pit so we were able to cookout. Made this Angelfood, strawberries and chocolate mountain pie!  It was delicious.

Then it was time for a sunset over the lake.

May 5 - learning about the new RV

We stayed close to Boise, ID, to learn more about the new camper. Brett had told us that there might be things that didn’t work quite right. Unfortunately we found one of those problems. The seal on the living area came out of the channel. We called Bret BUT since it was Saturday, the service part wasn’t open nor were any of the RV services open. We could wait till Monday or call Coachnet. So we called Coachnet, the company we have a service contract with for a year. With our other camper, we had Good Sam service and were very happy. Coachnet didn’t match that satisfaction. However, the campground had a person they recommended. We called them and the tech explained what needed to be done and said we could fix it ourselves. So Bill borrowed a ladder from the campground and he fixed it!

Luckily Bill can fix almost anything so we were on our way.

We took some side roads to stay off the Interstate. It was farming country. Look at the huge irrigation machines.

Huge dairy operation.

May 3-4 - Exciting and Eventful Days

Need to update you on a few things that has happened us. We were driving along and saw an RV sales place that had some smaller motor homes so we thought we’d stop and take a look. We did and we liked one so much that we went back the next day which would be May 4 and purchased a 30 foot motorhome. Here’s a picture of it

So if you can imagine deciding to buy a motorhome on the road in a different state, transferring all our stuff which was a lot and doing all the paperwork in one day, it was stressful exciting and scary. We also sold our truck and Tracer Air camper. We did ask ourselves “what were we thinking!”

But after our first night in the camper with stuff strewn everywhere, we are enjoying organizing all our stuff.

We found time to visit Eagle Island State Park and hike a little. Lenny was able to get in the creek and swim to cool off. I got Reuben wet but he wanted nothing to do with swimming!

With our motor home purchase, we got 2 nights free at a camping resort, Mountain Home RV Resort.

May 2 - Watch Bridge Jumpers, Explore City of Rocks

Twin Falls, Idaho is the only legal year-round place to jump off the Petrine Bridge with just a parachute. New River Gorge in West Virginia is the other place they do this but only in October.

Then it was on to visit and hike City of Rocks. We took a scenic route through a small canyon and through acres and acres of farmland.

Look at the size of this sage bush.

Finally made it to City of Rocks.

Lenny loved hiking and crawling over rocks. Reuben was able to keep up.

This is called Window Arch.

Here is Register Rock, where the wagon train people headed to California wrote their names in tar or carved them in the rock.

Here’s a shot of the valley where the wagon trains would camp because it was level and there was water.

On the way home we came across some cowboys herding cattle from one pasture to another.

May 1 - more of Idaho - on to Twin Falls

As we were leaving Canyon Springs campground, we saw this pretty rainbow. Always a positive sign.

Then it was on to Twin Falls with a BIG stop. We had seen this RV sales place when we were exploring yesterday and decided to stop now. Oh boy, now we have lots to think about. We’ve been talking about getting a motor home at some point but really never saw one that would meet our needs. This time we saw 3!  We left with all sorts of things running in our heads!  Still in our little trailer.

Found a campground near Shoshone Falls and Oregon Trail. So off we went to visit the falls.

There was a rim trail so we walked that for a couple miles. Evil Knivel made one of his big jumps here. Oh my. That would have been a thrill.

Then back to the camper to watch NCIS and Bull and talk more about that motor home!
