Day 7 - Hiking in Donner Pass

Today was our first day that we didn't have to hook up and pull out.

Weather in Sacramento is warm and beautiful blue skies.

Since Drew and Erin both had to work, we decided to drive to Donner Pass and hike for awhile.

The Donner Party (sometimes called the Donner-Reed Party) was a group of American pioneers led by George Donner and James F. Reed who set out for California in a wagon trainin May 1846. They were delayed by a series of mishaps and mistakes, and spent the winter of 1846–47 snowbound in the Sierra Nevada. Some of the pioneers resorted to cannibalismto survive.

It's beautiful but rugged. Can you imagine coming through this pass in a wagon?  The pass averages between 40-60 feet of snow a year. It was chilly but perfect weather for hiking.

These are some of the train tunnels cut into the side of the mountain.

We really shouldn't try taking selfies.

Headed to Drew and Erin's
